Coroza – Chaliceburner

There are many, many, many places across the globe that bring the glory of doom metal and stoner rock together in magnificent fashion as it’s a blend that’s been done a seemingly infinite amount of time as it’s a formula that’s been tried with it always remaining true in its quality. With all the many different countries on almost every continent that has provided such excellence, Ireland is one that I haven’t heard from in a while and it’s only fitting I finally get around to find what they can bring to the table, and it’s with Coroza that we’ve gotten nothing that’s to be scoffed at.

With such a cover art like that, I figured I was going to be in for a splendid display of power that was going to really show us just what precisely Ireland can bring to the table yet again since the last time I got something from them worth remembering was Soothsayer’s “At This Great Depth” years ago. But, it’s with a fresh offering that stretches over a runtime of an hour with just five tracks to call their own that get the job done wondrously as “Chaliceburner” does nothing but dominate. You could fall right into this record and just let it take you as Coroza has crafted a very fluid and organic experience that stretches on and on with little to no hesitation as we’re constantly treated to new riffs, plenty of melodies, loads of excellence, and a solid amount of diversity amongst the tracks that allow “Chaliceburner” to shine at virtually every turn. Although it feels like the tracks can go on for too long in some instances, there’s immense power and loads of enjoyment to be had here as Coroza does a very respectable job with three sets of vocals that all get a proper amount of time to shine, a crunch that can always be appreciated to the fullest as it’s always on display, and quality that persists for the entirety of “Chaliceburner” that’s simply the cherry on top of this stoner record that does nothing but justice for the Irish representation of the genre.

The genre can easily feel as though bands are running out of ideas with the same sound being recycled constantly, but it really all comes down to who’s hands the sound is being put it in and what kind of attitude the band in question has. If every band from here on out could have the same attitude as what Coroza brought to the table here then we are in perfect shape. “Chaliceburner” has plenty to offer for any fan of the genre and is a piece that I cannot help but have a sincere enjoyment of.

“Chaliceburner” releases on August 31st via Paranoid Beast Promotions!
