Sometimes it can really feel as though many bands out there just seem to take themselves too seriously. Not terribly so but it can really feel as though many acts just aren’t having a ton of fun when you listen to their studio work, but thrash metal almost always has an energy that feels as though a great party always follows. It goes double for crossover thrash where we’ve gotten tons of acts that just go bananas with their material that can easily swap from solid commentary to an absolute riot of fun. When it comes to Br00Tal Beefcake, it’s clearly the latter.

Truth be told, the most serious thing about this record is easily the cover art where just about everything except the very name of Br00Tal Beefcake sounds pretty standard for thrash metal if you ask me. It’s only with the name that we’re given a hint as to just how free-spirited this debut album is and it’s across all 18 tracks of it shows in every part from the name of each track to the very energy that’s woven in between each song to the attitude of “anything goes” for the entirety of “Based On True Events”. And that title rings true as these are all based on the mastermind’s experience with a single person who sounds like a trainwreck of a human being, but damned if they didn’t provide magnificent material for a very entertaining metal album! It’s been year’s since I came across a solid comedy album in either rock or metal that came across well and not like a fucking mess, and Br00Tal Beefcake fires on all cylinders to deliver a surprisingly satisfying listen. Br00Tal Beefcake delivers laughs, they bring ferocity that’s very intriguing to absorb, and the duo brings to the table a no care mentality that somehow elevates “Based on True Events” to a level that I just simply wasn’t expecting from an album like this.

Every song is an absolute riot that’s so easy to get sucked in that it begins undoubtedly the most fun record of its kind that I’ve heard since the latest Iron Reagan full length, and even then it’s somehow so much more fun in its entirety. Br00Tal Beefcake may just be onto something really awesome and it’s with “Based on True Events” that they confidently took a step that was pulled off with surprisingly good results.
