It’s with a demo that a band can easily give the world a raw, first-go representation of what a band could ever bring to the table when they enter the wide world of music where the competition is simply cut-throat to say the least. Everybody knows this. Many people would prefer to wait until the band polishes their sound with a full-length effort that can be a real ensemble as to what the band can actually accomplish, but a demo can have so much more raw attitude to it that can bring a completely different feel. It’s with their humble 3-track example that Death Ensemble shows they’re worthy of being watched.
There isn’t much to dive into simply because there are only three tracks with which Death Ensemble bust in with, but it’s more than enough to make an impression should the material in question be in the right hands that can actually make it work. Not much is easy when it comes to the first few tracks that you’ve ever created, and mixing together the worlds of death and thrash metal is enough of a challenge even though some would call it easy as could be. That being said, I really do feel like Death Ensemble brought a solid performance to the table where everything about this demo has plenty of raw ferocity to it coupled with unforgiving speed and intensity that makes this demo a fiery offering that, obviously, has imperfections but it still works in the end and that’s incredibly important. If these tracks just don’t work, the whole experience falls apart and the only word we could call Death Ensemble: boring. But, fortunately, they dodge such a fate quite well as this demo serves up a desirable mix of death and thrash that comes together quite well for a vicious listen that’s ripe for improvement and expansion.
There will always be an absolute overflow of new, promising acts that come around every single year amongst the many different styles of metal. Death Ensemble has definitely made a solid case for themselves here that, like I said, has some kinks in it but that’s only to be expected in a band’s first foray into the world.
