There’s something about a no fucks given and constantly energized rock experience that can put a smile on anyone’s face. I’m sure it’s been broken down to a science with its own formula but at the end of the day the only thing the vast majority of us can say is “fuck yeah”, and that’s all there is to it! That’s precisely what I’ve felt about Mammoth Mammoth the last few years with their electric sound and last record being one of my favorites this year. Coming into this new work, I wasn’t exceptionally thrilled about the first single but upon letting “Kreuzung” settle after even just one listen to shows that Mammoth Mammoth is truly a band that deserves commendation from all fans of rock.

What always drew me into the records that Mammoth Mammoth created for us before was just how immensely gripping they were as stoner rock works that just never knew when to let up as this band knew how to keep the listener invested in the fascinating riffs and never say die attitude. I was expecting and honestly hoping for much of the same out of “Kreuzung” because Mammoth Mammoth really delivered with “Mount the Mountain”, but what we get here is close but still very different. The overall sound of this record is very much a boiled-down version of what we’ve come to expect from this band where we’d normally expect high octane energy that knows no bounds, Mammoth Mammoth pulls back just a bit for the whole of “Kreuzung” to make it a very sublime rock experience that still has everything that’s ever made this band exceptional to begin with but with a slightly more laid back approach that’s also a tad simpler in its execution. It results in the overall work a very rewarding listen for any fan of rock as it just keeps on giving at every turn, and “Kreuzung” has eleven tracks of pure excellence to throw around in all of its splendor. The riffs are nigh on captivating and everything that surrounds them only further cements Mammoth Mammoth as one of the most fruitful bands of their generation in their quality as well as their quantity, and it only takes a single spin of “Kreuzung” to see why this band has a bright future ahead of them as their already-great discography speaks for itself.

As I said, it was with the first single that I heard from this album that I wasn’t really excited about, but after a few spins of this potent record shows that Mammoth Mammoth still has all their essential flavors that are done all but exquisitely with a slightly different approach that’s shocking effective which shows us just how well this band can spin their sound such that it doesn’t get anywhere near stale. “Kreuzung” is an album that’s made for the modern rock fan who needs the high octane energy and brilliantly intoxicating sound to which all eleven tracks of this album delivers in absolute earnest.
