Frozen Planet….1969 – Meltdown on the Horizon

The number of bands that do their best to bring forth their own brand of psychedelia into the world is at an untold high nowadays, and it’s not hard to see why given how much enjoyment the style can bring forth both audibly and visually as well as having plenty of unexplored territories to claim. Despite never crossing my radar until today, it’s Frozen Planet….1969 that has been doing the style justice for years now, and it’s with their latest offering that their instrumental power showcases remarkable talent.

Before I even set forth into this record, I knew that “Meltdown on the Horizon” was going to be something that I was going to be getting plenty of enjoyment out of. I could tell just by looking at how long the four songs were as they varied from just under seven minutes to over twenty-two in length, and it’s every single one of them that are dripping with tantalizing psychedelia the likes of which people with a taste like mine simply live for! The entirety of “Meltdown on the Horizon” fits in the same vein of the likes of The Re-Stoned, but far trippier as they fully embrace the colorful soundscapes and the hypnotic riffs that simply go on for days such that each track has the masterful skill of keeping you locked in place as the band just does their grandiose work without a single shred of ineptitude to be seen. Frozen Planet….1969 clearly knew what they were doing as they penned this cosmically entertaining album, and it’s resulted in one of the peak works of psychedelia that we’ve seen this year, surely. Am I saying it deserves to be among the greatest? Absolutely not, but, given time, I’ve no doubt Frozen Planet….1969 could reach such heights as “Meltdown on the Horizon” is very much the slab of a gorgeous nebula in a music form that many of us are constantly salivating for.

This is far from anything original in terms of where modern psychedelia goes, but it’s undeniable here to say that Frozen Planet….1969 hasn’t done an exemplary job with all four tracks here displaying everything great that the style has ever had going for it. Right from the beginning, it’s clear that “Meltdown on the Horizon” seeks to deliver grand psychedelia and it’s at every turn that it truly does deliver!
