Creating post-black metal can be a really tricky thing to pull off because the musicians are always torn between siding on the post-metal side, the black metal side, or trying to balance the two in a way that can please both sides. Sometimes a band makes one work while another doesn’t. It’s a matter of the talent of the band at hand in the end, and it’s not terribly often that it actually works out brilliantly. But, when it does, I can’t help but talk about it so now I must talk about the grandeur that is the latest album from Lesath.
It’s an always tricky thing to make black metal mesmerizing in such a way that leaves you wondering just how something as such could be created out of a style whose very roots are meant to sap the very light out of the universe, yet that doesn’t stop dozens of bands from trying that on both a weekly and monthly basis as they constantly try to improve themselves. But, it’s not often by any means of any kind that Lesath is a common sight and it’s even less that we get acts like “Sacred Ashes” that constantly impress us just with the first song alone, and then it’s with the remainder of the work that we get to see just how talented Lesath is as an act that’s far more than capable of pulling this style off. The style can almost easily be seen as oversaturated by a good number of bands trying to shake the style up however they please, but Lesath steps out from the crowd with utmost style and grace as they do nothing but justice for both styles that they bring to the table without breaking a single sweat. Such work like this cannot go unheralded, and who am I to deny something like this its well-deserved commendation?
It can seem like albums in this vein are a dime a dozen since there tend to be so many that try to pull it off but simply don’t hit all the right points in order to deliver what a truly great performance like “Sacred Ashes” delivers, but, as you might figure by now, this work nails every single one of those points one right after another. This is but the very first offering that we’ve ever gotten from Lesath, and I can already say for certain from this work alone that we should not ignore or underestimate them for one moment.
