Sutrah – Aletheia

There will always be some bands that seemingly everyone has heard except you and a select few others, or it feels like that, at least. For me, my list runs quite long, longer than I’d like, and one of those bands is Sutrah whose album “Dunes” from just a few years ago I had only just heard a few months ago. Having great respect for what they did with that album, I refuse to let this forthcoming effort pass me by like its predecessor.

“Aletheia” is just an EP, but that doesn’t mean that Sutrah doesn’t try their best to fill these four tracks with everything that people have come to rave about them as they are benevolent enough to give us material that’ll hold us over until their next full-length album. There’s plenty of everything that’s made Sutrah noteworthy throughout this album with each song have something to proudly call its own whether it’s a constant onslaught that doesn’t let up or a delectable display of intrinsic progressive death metal that’s shown in full force in the epic nearly 16-minute finale that’s a real send off for a work like this that Sutrah pulls of with wondrous quality. A surprisingly long EP as far as EPs go, “Aletheia” is nothing that should be underestimated, and I’ve no doubt whatsoever that no fan of Sutrah will dare to find themselves questioning the quality of these songs because the reputation that Sutrah has garnered for themselves in a short time truly does precede them. Everything that’s brought to the table here is far from anything that’s to be called amazing new to the band or the style, but Sutrah continue to show us that they are real experts of their craft with every ounce of “Aletheia” being worth listening to, and I can’t help but feel that this band is only giving us a mere hint of what they’re to deliver in the future. Hopefully, that future isn’t far off.

Sutrah is very much a name I should have been familiar with years ago and I’m very glad I came around to them just in time enough to hear this EP, for I can only imagine how much I would’ve been missing out on had I just sat on my hands, contempt at not doing anything. The whole of “Aletheia” has more than enough for fans of the band both new and old, and I can only promise greatness almost as soon as you hit the play button.

“Aletheia” releases on March 13th via The Artisan Era!
