Lux Luna – Mors Coronati Autumnus Est

The amount of atmospheric black metal acts that are out and about in the current landscape of the scene can easily feel to be overwhelming, and that’s simply because it is. They absolutely overflow onto one another and it’s only on occasion that we get one that sticks out even if it’s by a little such that it doesn’t become lost in an expansive scene that feels like it devours itself over time. I wasn’t expecting much more than a cool cover art when I first when into this debut piece, but it’s by the end of it I can’t help but feel that Lux Luna is an act I’d suggest keeping a loose eye on.

Of all the things that can easily catch my eye of any given work without even hearing a single note, the only thing that can get me listening quicker than a really good cover art would be some ludicrous song times. That’s the main thing of what drew me into the complex realm of “Mors Coronati Autumnus Est”. This is the very first piece of material that the world has seen from Lux Luna, and you’d think the act’s first release would have a little more than a single track for any sort of official release, but seeing a 23-minute runtime it becomes really apparent really quickly why “Mors Coronati Autumnus Est” has been released in such a state. Add on top of that the simple fact that Lux Luna does a surprisingly good job with this lengthy song and you’ve got yourself a recipe for a truly deadly but very interesting piece of atmospheric black metal. That’s not even mentioning the fact that this one piece has got just about everything that makes the style such an interesting thing to listen to in the first place, and Lux Luna capitalizes on every single factor to make “Mors Coronati Autumnus Est” an exciting rollercoaster that’s just as easy to lose yourself in as it can be to be singed by what this act brings forth given how fiery the very spirit of this debut is right from the get-go.

There are not many bands in this style that can bring such quality on their first release much less their tenth, and when one comes along I cannot help but strongly suggest we all take note just as we should with Lux Luna. Pound for pound, “Mors Coronati Autumnus Est” is something that’s not to be ignored for, surely, it’s a prelude to a very interesting band that many will find tons of joy in.
