It wasn’t really until a few years ago with my favorite album to date from The Re-Stoned, “Stories of the Astral Lizard”, that I discovered just how good long-winded instrumental psych-rock can get, and it’s been such a treat to discover more pieces like it as the years go on. It’s been quite rare though that I’ve found an album that’s come even close to such majesty.  Easily, Electric Moon has created a work that has come the closest to that high bar, and every track delivers at every turn.

The very idea of instrumental long-winded psych-rock is quite the niche one, albeit not as niche as it gets, and it really does take talent to do such a style justice as it takes a lot of practice, precision, and persistence to bring all the necessary layers together in such a way that can be called scrumptious. It’s often that a band could bring in some elements for a song or two, but it’s incredibly uncommon that we see it done with a full-length album done where every single track on display is the epitome of what the idea can become. Every inch of “Mind Explosion” is something to be bewildered at as this band clearly knows how to work their way around the style like true masters where many would easily have a couple of understandable slips and trips here or there, but it’s at every possible turn here that Electric Moon shows us just how potent they are from their very sound to the musicianship of it all. Any fan of this genre whether they be into the instrumental factor or not will find loads upon loads to enjoy within this grand melting pot of magnificence as we can constantly see this take dominate whether it’s in the form of tranquil riffage or some high-class psychedelia that’s very rarely reached on a level such as this, and Electric Moon capitalizes with it at every feasible turn. It’s that really good shit that deserves to be heralded for everything it’s worth, and I truly do hope to see a follow-up to “Mind Explosion” sooner rather than later!

This is the exact kind of stuff that I like looking forward when I seek out this kind of music, and it’s truly elating every time I come across it and it’s no different here with Electric Moon who clearly knows exactly what they’re doing here! Right from the beginning to the very end, “Mind Explosion” is a glorious exposition of how to do such a niche style immense loads of justice, and this band has certified their right to be considered amongst the greatest acts of their kind with this album alone.
