Itnuveth – Enuma Elish

A lot of times, I find myself preferring bands to switch up their sound even if it’s by the smallest bit as they progress from album to album, but it’s on a rare occasion that sometimes it just fucking works for several albums with minimal change needed. That is almost never the case as doing something different can breathe tons of new life into any band, but bands like Itnuveth manage to somehow stay interesting no matter what they dish out despite the difference from album to the next being minimal at times. With their new album, that still rings true but it also feels like their meatiest offering since “Enchantments”.

Still keeping to their trend of putting out at least one form of material every year since their first work back in 2014, this is the first full-length offering that we’ve gotten from Itnuveth in three years. The reasons for that I’ve no idea, but I truly do believe it has its benefits as any band can benefit from a healthy break as it can truly keep their creativity thriving and I also truly do believe that such a gap is what preserved the quality of “Enuma Elish” even in its earliest stages. Everything that people have come to know and love whenever they think of the name Itnuveth comes to light again with these twelve tracks: tasteful interludes with real atmosphere, ripping solos in just about every other song, the tremendous dynamic in vocals, and a brilliant approach to pagan black metal that outshines so many other acts. But, it’s the little things that make “Enuma Elish” a treat that will make returning fans and newcomers alike rejoice. The penultimate track having purely female vocals that are all but stupendously perfect for this sort of material. The regular vocals feel much more fleshed out, somehow, which also applies to the entire band from the guitars to the tin flute. Everything about “Enuma Elish” is just as epic as its predecessors with it even surpassing them in some moments, helping the album as a whole stand out in a discography that’s been pretty noteworthy for years already. All of the instrumentation that Itnuveth brings to the table is top-tier as always, and then the melody that they bring to the table is delectable to say the very least.

“Enuma Elish”, as you might have figured by now, does not change the dynamic of what Itnuveth has brought to the table before a lot if at all, and yet, somehow, they make it work like a goddamn charm for the fifth consecutive full-length in a row. Of all the Spanish acts out there that I’ve come to love, Itnuveth has long been at the top and “Enuma Elish” only further cements that.

“Enuma Elish” releases on February 5th!
