It’s not often enough that we get a really solid work that blends together the realms of black and folk metal in such a way that really flattens just about every person that sits down to take a real listen to it all. Usually, we can get about one of these a year where it’s truly great in plenty of areas that more than meet the criteria that such an album needs to meet. It is definitely a tad early for us to say the yearly throne has been taken already, but it’s with their first full-length album that Marrasmieli makes one hell of a shot for the crown!
It was with their debut EP just two years ago that Marrasmieli popped onto our scene with both subtleties, as they didn’t make any huge impact in the scene as a whole, and surprise for those of us who did listen to it because we could truly hear the untapped talent underneath the music that was yearning to be set free. We could only hope that Marrasmieli would let it loose on their follow-up, and it’s with this brand new album of “Between Land and Sky” that they flaunt their talent with extreme pride as they let it loose like wild horses upon the plains. Across six tracks, including one seductive quick intro, there isn’t one of them that doesn’t boast something absolutely awesome that identifies each one flawlessly from one another such that the whole of “Between Land and Sky” is a glorious example of what happens when the right band comes around that just devastates the rest of the competition with what seems like just the flick of a wrist, and Marrasmieli is the perfect embodiment of that idea. They bring together everything that can be great about the fusion of black and folk metal in such a way that leaves you craving more and it’s by the end that I found myself scrambling to hear more as quickly as I could just so that I could get another helping of what this band bring to the table. It’s just the sort of shit that many people clamor for, and it’s what’ll propel both Marrasmieli and “Between Land and Sky” into the hearts of many just as it has for mine.
I truly cannot find a single thing wrong with this stupendous work even after listening to it for hours on end, and I can’t help but feel we’ve got something truly exceptional on our hands with Marrasmieli. Simply put, if you let “Between Land and Sky” pass you by, you truly are missing out on something quite special.
