Giöbia – Plasmatic Idol

A real trip of music that’s worth talking about can easily be a thing that’s both as rare as it gets or buried beneath so many other acts that try to bring such a thing to the table despite not being able to do it any justice whatsoever. Modern psych rock has come leaps and bounds since its first initial explosion, and bands are continuing to push the envelope of just how awesome psychedelia can be, and Giöbia has been pushing that envelope for some time now.

It can be easy for any act going for an over-the-top psychedelic sound to find themselves falling short of that perfect line because they either just aren’t capable of bringing the right things together in order to make it work or they have everything, but they absolutely fail as balancing them right resulting in somewhat of a mess that continuously falls apart. But, bands like Giöbia are what keep the high-end psychedelic sound going to this very day as it’s with their classic brand of psychedelia that shows us how it was done magnificently decades ago while still refining it to be sharper than a vicious sword, and it truly shows to great effect with “Plasmatic Idol”. I’ve personally never used any sort of drugs that’d induce an absolute mindfuck, but this is the exact sort of material that I’d want to take if I ever do because everything about “Plasmatic Idol” is already a mindfuck to begin with and Giöbia capitalizes on every single instance of them with absolute grace and skill. Whether it be instrumental songs or tracks guided by an amazingly seductive voice, there is very little which Giöbia brings to the table that isn’t absolutely loaded with psychedelic grandeur with a strong acidic flavor that makes it all so much more layered and interesting, to say the least, such that it wouldn’t be hard to call “Plasmatic Idol” the exact kind of gateway to that other-worldly high reaches of the style that many people clamor for even if they don’t know it.

It’s incredibly easy to fall within the ever-unfolding expanse that Giöbia lays before each listener, and it’s not long before you become absolutely enamored with the pure splendor that this band weaves out of seemingly nothing. Right from the beginning, there isn’t much within the confines of “Plasmatic Idol” that isn’t possible within the boundless regions of psychedelia, and it’s the sort of thing I’m already craving more of.
