Watching a band grow, even just a little, after years of not hearing new material is very rewarding in its own way, and it’s something that I’ll never tire of in any form. Whether it’s a band trying to become something else entirely or just trying to better themselves in general, it’s all great to watch and I truly wondered what Suffer No Fools would bring to the table when I first listened to their 2016 album, and it’s here with the follow-up to that work that they don’t disappoint one bit.

There isn’t much within the confines of everything that “We Die As We Live” that makes me want to say that it’s truly magnificent by any means, but I cannot express enough just how much of an upgrade this album is from its predecessor such that I can’t get over just how well it’s done here at just about every turn. Suffer No Fools leaves virtually no stone unturned as they show us just what exactly they’re made of, and it’s nothing to be scoffed at whatsoever. There’s a very well done infectious layer spread amongst every song spread throughout “We Die As We Live” such that we’re interested and captivated by whatever it is that’s being thrown in front of our faces whether it’s something a little complex when it comes to the instruments, a nice collection of riffs that really grab the attention instantly, or even the vocals that really keep you grounded all throughout the album as everything else swirls around you at pace. It’s not nearly as bombastic or extreme as some people would prefer, but there’s no denying whatsoever that what Suffer No Fools has brought to the table here is their best work yet, and it’s not a far stretch at all to claim that “We Die As We Live” is on the very cusp of greatness.

This is one of those records that really just needs one last push in virtually any direction in order to put the band in the right spot, but what direction that is I have no idea but I’ve utter confidence in the band since they were able to make “We Die As We Live” as delicious as it is. There’s no way to deny that the skill and craftsmanship behind Suffer No Fools has increased greatly with this album, and it’s a treat that just keeps on giving with every successive song, for sure.
