Is there really anything much more to say about Brant Bjork that hasn’t been said before? The man is a true icon of the desert rock scene in ways that have changed at least two generations of the entire scene, and he continues to go strong despite his talent being accepted and hailed by millions. You’d think he would’ve put out an eponymous way before his thirteenth effort from his solo project, but why not at the same time? Without missing a single step as always, Brant Bjork delivers on a magnificent level like he always does.
The beautiful part about listening to Brant Bjork is how it all has the sound that the man is known for but, like always, the artist never once repeats himself in this album nor does he rely too much upon his past creations to make creating something special easier for him by any means. And when you really think about it, nothing new whatsoever feels to be done here throughout this eponymous work, but it’s through his undeniable expertise and taste for top tier desert rock that Brant Bjork dodges the terrifying trap that is stagnation with masterful grace. Normally, a record that seems to repeat the same stuff can become boring really quickly, but it’s here that Brant Bjork makes it look like fucking art as each track on display here does nothing but further cement the awesomeness of this talent. Everything that’s laid forth here can be considered the epitome of relaxing music that is nigh on perfect to chill with and let take you over as Brant Bjork’s magic is one that has inspired millions, and it’s all throughout this album that we see it done well yet again even after over twenty years of proving he knows his shit and it still hasn’t gotten old yet.
To keep the momentum going for any stretch of time is something that should be commended, there’s no question there. But to do it across twenty years without dipping or caving the quality where many others might’ve done it before year ten is worth being called legendary, and Brant Bjork definitely qualifies as such with this self-titled. Should you be a fan of the man already then you will have a damn good time with this album, I can practically promise that. If you’ve never listened to the master before, you have a fuck ton of catching up to do and here is as good a place as any!
