Molly Karloff – Supernaturalation

We all had our starting point with whatever hard music we’re listening to today whether it’s something intense metal or hardcore punk that holds nothing back. Some people had it with Motley Crue, some started with bands like Iron Maiden. For me, it’s all thanks to my father who raised me on what he grew up with from the likes of Rolling Stones, Foo Fighters, and Oasis. It’s every so often that I find myself listening to music that can make me feel like I’m a child again hearing music that makes an immense lasting impression on me, and it’s here that Molly Karloff has created just such a time machine for me.

Everything about this record would’ve appealed to me as a youth, and it still does wonders for me as an adult. This is the exact kind of serrated edge rock with that feel like it was born in the garage that so many bands strive for but rarely achieve, and Molly Karloff has pulled it off way to well in these five tracks of pure rock fun. Just listening to this gave me flashbacks to being a child exploring a whole new style of music I never once thought existed, and it’s every ounce of “Supernaturalation” that elicits that feeling for me. With riffs abound and attitude that can’t be knocked down for anything, there isn’t a single thing that Molly Karloff didn’t do in their approach to this album that didn’t work out splendidly for them, and it’s hard to say that they didn’t smash the goal of being infectious as possible while having a fuck ton of fun while they’re at it. Albums with that perfect balance aren’t common enough, and all five of the tracks that we’re treated to here with “Supernaturalation” that prove it can still be done to tremendous effect and if Molly Karloff doesn’t get at least a decent following for pulling it off so fucking well then that’s a true crime. Everything that could’ve come together was done so well here that it’s so hard to not get sucked into what this entire work does from beginning to end, and it’s impossible for me to say that I didn’t greatly enjoy every note and every lyric of what was done all throughout this album.

Listening to this reminded me of when I listened to the debut album from Mother Feather and how much it stuck out because of how unexpectedly fun, organic, and awesome it was in every single way, and Molly Karloff just brings that same feeling flooding back to me. Everything about “Supernaturalation” is done fantastically well to the point where I can’t help but help any fan of infectious rock to investigate with the utmost haste as soon as you can.
