Creating something that’s simple at its core but still is something that can melt your fucking brain is the exact type of material that so many people are looking for without even knowing they needed it until they hear it. There are countless names out there to know that can perfectly scratch that itch, but one of the best of them out of the up-and-coming bands out there is Cosmic Putrefaction, without a doubt. Despite only having one album out before this, it’s undoubted that what we’ve gotten here only further proves the genius that we’ve seen elsewhere.

While his time with the more primitive approach with death metal is still relatively new compared to his excursions in other styles with his other bands like Summit and The Clearing Path, there’s no denying that the guy already knows how to create something that’s just as deliciously expansive as it is mind-bendingly brutal. Just pick any song off the upcoming effort that is “The Horizons Towards Which Splendour Withers” and you can see what excellence we’re dealing with here! There are absolutely no punches pulled throughout this entire release as Cosmic Putrefaction shows us time after time just how well it can be pulled off without going out of its way to have too much technicality or having some sort of gimmick. Right from the start, “The Horizons Towards Which Splendour Withers” is an album that goes for the throat and seeks to crack the very surface of the planet as Cosmic Putrefaction does a stunning job at bringing forth clandestine death metal that delivers on every level as it soars right above the competition without breaking a single sweat at any point. This is very much a record that demands to be heard for any fan of the style, and should you find yourself on the fence I cannot suggest enough coming back to the endless glory that is “The Horizons Towards Which Splendour Withers” as it absolutely has something for everyone to sink their teeth into, and to say that Cosmic Putrefaction didn’t pull it off spectacularly would be a stain on the undeniable talent.

From the relentless riffs to the haunting orchestral finale, there isn’t a single thing about what’s brought to the table here that doesn’t deliver on an extreme scale that should absolutely catch the fancy of many fans of death metal. Cosmic Putrefaction knows exactly what it was doing and it’s only getting better as we can clearly see the quality rising in everything that’s done here, and I couldn’t ask for anything better!
