Discovering some filthy death metal that’s actually worth its own salt is always a fun thing to find no matter the occasion because some proper nasty death metal isn’t quite like anything else out there. It can just as easily have a ton of riffing to draw listeners in while also being so extreme or unorthodox that easily deters many. It can really go either way, but when it’s done right it’s nothing to fuck with at all. With their debut EP, Exaugurate only further adds to such a magnificent claim.

Four tracks are rarely enough to leave a lasting impact no matter what band you are or what style you perform and to see any band make an impression off so few tracks really tell of good things to come in the future. When I finished “Chasm of Rapturous Delirium”, I knew that Exaugurate had accomplished just such a feat. This is some of that exact nasty death metal that effortlessly shifts between crushing riffs and mind-bending heaviness that we’ve come to see lately, but Exaugurate executes it in such a way that the whole of the EP becomes no less than absolutely delectable for any death metal fan the moment they get their teeth into the real meat of what’s on the table here. It really knows how to get underneath your skin in order to deliver a visceral listen that’s just as voracious as it is satisfying for it knows how to deliver excellence on all fronts as Exaugurate grinds forth to show us what they’re really made of on just their first offering, and it’s far from anything to scoff at. “Chasm of Rapturous Delirium” immediately shows us that this band is nothing at all to fuck with, and even though it’s not terribly different than much of the rest of the style, there’s no denying that both this release and band have real quality to them that just keep on giving with each minute of this EP.

Such debuts like this are the perfect perch for any death metal band to set off because it shows us just what exactly the act can bring to the table while showing us they can pull it off, and, most importantly, it leaves us wanting more! So much of “Chasm of Rapturous Delirium” does nothing but get me very excited for what this band can do in the future, and the bar has already been set quite high.
