A band that tries something new is always something that will have my attention almost immediately every single time. It’s something that I’m constantly on the lookout for, and whenever it happens I rarely let it slip by because of how much potential there is of that material being fucking awesome. Death metal doesn’t really get anything new, in my experience, outside of tech-death bands just trying to one-up each other with crazy music. With their upcoming effort, Atræ Bilis definitely one-ups plenty of the competition but innovates in small ways that helps elevate their material.

I’d be lying to you if I were to sit here and say that the forthcoming effort of “Divinihility” was a flawless work of brutality that decimates on every level with its massive prowess when it comes to both raw power and ferociously concentrated talent. I say that because this album is not flawless as it has one massive piece missing from the puzzle: I wanted more! This album is so massive and has everything that a fan of modern-day death metal would salivate over as Atræ Bilis effortlessly blends elements of technical and brutal death metal into a colorful display that is nigh on dazzling, but with only six tracks to call its own, “Divinihility” does nothing but leave you in a state of withdrawal when it comes to an end. It’s such a tantalizing record on every possible front and Atræ Bilis should absolutely be proud of the wonderful thing that they’ve created here, and it’s so good that six tracks will never be enough to satiate the desire for more once the real meat of “Divinihility” hits your vulnerable eardrums. Everything about the record worms its way into your skull where it’s left to bounce around inside for hours and hours with only listening more being the only cure but that would only result in it being stuck in your head even further, and it’s so good that it’s far from a bad thing. Splendid brutality meets a different sense of musical exploration in a terrific fusion here the likes of which I haven’t seen much in recent times and I can’t help but feel that Atræ Bilis will absolutely dominate in the future if they keep building off this excellence.

There are plenty of bands that I’ve come across that do well to put their best foot forward as they venture out into the vast underground of metal, but it’s here with Atræ Bilis that we see that done to an extremely high degree. There isn’t a single iota of “Divinihility” that I wouldn’t suggest to any fan of death metal for it has something for so many listeners of the style and, surely, it will propel Atræ Bilis to become a need to know act.
