There have been many times where I crave some off the chain black metal that holds nothing back in terms of pure craziness. An assault on your ears is something that you rarely know you need until it comes upon you, and when it’s mind-bending it can lead to something very special. There’s a clear line between that craziness and the more mundane side of music, and we don’t often see a band straddle that line. Nexion does just that with their upcoming effort, and they bring together the best of both sides for something scrumptious.
Everything about “Seven Oracles” is what more and more people are expecting black metal to be exuding nowadays with how powerful and villainous it feels without even breaking a sweat throughout every blasphemous track. And whether or not that’s something Nexion made with real intent upon crafting this album, it came out fantastically alongside the pure musicianship that’s even more bombastic. It’s constantly in your face and almost always twisting and turn down insane corridors that consistently keep the listener guessing at just what fresh hell is on the way next, and “Seven Oracles” delivers at every opportunity. This is a far cry from something truly mind-melting where your brain is constantly seeping from your ears from the extreme nature of what you’re hearing like what we get from the likes of Esoctrilihum just to name one. This is a voracious record by all accounts with Nexion never once taking the easy way out to give the listener even a little bit of reprieve to recuperate going from one track to the next, and while it does keep plenty tropes of black metal throughout its entire runtime, “Seven Oracles” refuses to sink back into the ocean of other acts that do nothing worth mentioning.
It’s here that this band shows without a doubt that they’re a clear cut above much of the rabble with the quality, power, and talent undeniable for the entirety of this album, and if it doesn’t earn Nexion a damn solid following then I don’t know what will. There’s a lot that has been brought to the table for “Seven Oracles” in every way and it’s a great sign of surely more things to come from Nexion in the future.
