If we were to make a chart for this band that showed us their overall progress as a unit from just about every angle, there’d be dramatic increases in every single field. Even though they’ve only put out three albums now, there’s no doubt amongst throngs of people that Forming the Void is the real deal that so many other bands aspire to be even well into their time as bands. These guys got exponentially better going from their debut to “Rift” just two years ago, and now that trend has only continued to culminate in an album that’s beyond any slander of any kind.

Taking somewhat of the same path that Elder has recently taken, Forming the Void really embodies their progressive and psychedelic sides throughout “Reverie” to make this their trippiest offering by far up to this point, and I couldn’t have asked for anything better with such a concept! Quite literally every single track that adorns “Reverie” has some tantalizing riff that incorporates a grand form of psychedelic tastiness that’s all wrapped together in a perfect coating of heaviness that brings everything together so smoothly that it’s a wonder that even a band as talented as Forming the Void could bring it together. We’re constantly spoiled all throughout this album with an absolute showering of heaviness that compliments everything that’s brought to the table here that all work off each other far too well with it just allowing “Reverie” to immediately grow into something worth talking about to any fan of the genre whether they be a newcomer or someone who’s been around since the early days of bands like Sleep. Forming the Void has absolutely hit the nail on the head here from every physical angle in such delectable fashion that it’s damn near impossible for someone like me to ignore because of how scrumptious literally every facet is here in this mammoth offering.

As one of the surprises that the year has thrown my way when it comes to standout releases, there’s no way to question, doubt, or judge just how far Forming the Void has come with this stunner. The entirety of “Reverie” oozes with everything that fans of these overlapping styles are constantly searching for in droves, and I can’t help but suspect that this won’t be the peak of what Forming the Void will create in the future.
