Brigantia – Midnight

The number of instances where there comes a new band out of the woodwork from wherever on the planet that offers something even a little interesting is simply too high to count for anybody. But, the number of those who on their debut did no less than surpass expectations and much of the competition is so low that whenever a new one pops up it demands to be heard! It’s only fitting that such a sneaky little entry like this would come out of the criminally underrated scene out of Ireland, and Brigantia more than delivers.

Doom is a fitting style to have just three tracks in a single release, but the runtime of this EP is barely 19 minutes long so Brigantia had a lot to live up to with the more traditional-like path that they were taking with their brand of doom. Almost right off the bat with “Midnight”, it’s exceedingly clear that this EP is a cut above the rest with the entirety of the work giving us something that someone could easily call an extremely fun and interesting work by all means no matter what time period or a specific style of doom we’re talking about. The trio makes an incredibly accessible but quite heavy work that gives us so much of what makes for an essential doom work and it’s all pulled off with such immaculate precision that it’s a marvel we’re seeing it on Brigantia’s very first EP. Just knowing that it’s their first work of that nature makes “Midnight” all the more delicious because just imagine a full-length or whatever they could make in ten years! There is a ton of potential to throw around with this work on a ridiculous level such that Brigantia should absolutely be considered one of Ireland’s most intriguing doom acts to be keeping up with if not one of the country’s most interesting metal bands in general.

Everything about “Midnight” boasts tremendous musicianship and impeccable quality that so many other acts wish they could duplicate but it’s only through their immense talent that Brigantia has succeeded as well as they have. This act is definitely going on my list of bands to keep my eye on in the future, and I highly suggest that you do the same.
