Koffin – Nailed into the Coffin

We’ve all sat down and listened to a couple of demos in our time no matter what form of metal it may come in, but it really does feel like the more worthwhile ones come from the realm of death metal more than not. It just works so well since the sound is already so raw to begin that many times you don’t even need a lot of studio magic to make it sound good. We can just as easily get something genius that sounds exactly like it does live and feel like we got a perfect death metal experience. Koffin is just the latest to make an argument for just that and it’s with this demo that my eye will be firmly placed on Koffin from here on out.

Have you ever listened to a very small act and just want them immediately to be more widespread because you know for a fact that this is the exact kind of shit that people are always dying for? That’s precisely how I feel about Koffin because this work sounds like that classic raw and unforgiving death metal bred in Florida or even Finland and it scratches all the itches that every death metal fan always has. Every single inch of “Nailed into the Coffin” is absolutely dripping in glorious viscera that is no less than extremely satisfying to listen to as Koffin’s sound is magnificently thick in even its smallest moments of which there are very few throughout these five tracks albeit expertly placed. This humble yet voracious EP is an absolute chugging machine as well so don’t sit here and think that Koffin goes for the same sound over and over again because that is anything but the truth! “Nailed into the Coffin” goes right for the throat at every opportunity that it gets with riffs filled with grand intoxication that’s just the right concoction to where you’ll always be left wanting to come back for so much more every single time the five tracks of devastation draw to a close. It’s so incredibly satisfying but it leaves you wanting more, and that’s a great sign to a truly impressive work of death metal if there’s ever to be just one!

This is a debut that is still surprising for me to hear given the quality of it, and I do hope that this work becomes something that the community eats right up rather than just letting it become another unknown gem of the sprawling underground. Although, that’s not necessarily a bad thing since sometimes the best stuff requires work to find and I’m very confident that Koffin can become something next level if they continue down the promising path that’s laid forth with “Nailed into the Coffin”. And you can bet damn well that I’ll be following that path as closely as I can whenever I can.
