With year slowly but quickly coming to a close, the unseen scramble by many metal websites like my own are starting to collect their lists for their favorite albums of the year with some of them even starting to release those lists… even though the year isn’t over yet. I can understand the idea of thinking that there won’t be anything massive in the last few weeks of the year, but that’s far from a sure thing with bands constantly releasing material whether or not they look to get on our arbitrary lists. Quality doesn’t stop flowing for anyone, and it’s bands like Vrenth that continue to pump out excellence whether or not they seek a spot on those pointless lists or not.
It’s sad for me to say that releases like this that are released in the final days of any given year aren’t given the recognition they deserve, and I truly don’t understand why. If it’s a scramble to catch up on any past excellence or people don’t find it worth their time or anything of the sort, I find it all to be bullshit. The time of release never once matters. Any album is worthy of commendation if it captures the listener’s attention, and it’s here with “Baptism Death” that we see Vrenth pull that off with prime excellence. This is death metal the likes of which the raging sea of fans is always clamoring for in one way or another as this eight-track behemoth is overflowing with nasty riffs and a downright blasphemous attitude that permeates every single moment that the album has to offer, and it couldn’t be any more delicious! Everything about “Baptism Death” has that thick and rotting feel across the entirety of its runtime to make this work what’s likely to be one of the best last stops for quality underground death metal that this year will offer us, and I feel damn sorry for anyone who decides to skip over it for Vrenth has brought it all! From its black soul to the devilish work that it carries out through every note to the uncompromising heaviest that cannot be denied to the overwhelming quality that washes over us like a true miasma, there isn’t much to not fall in love with for any death metal fan that is worth their own salt for “Baptism Death” has it all in absolute spades, and it’s a trip of absolute devastation that I will not tire of any time soon.
Such seedy death metal like this is so much of what we could always hope for out of any underground act that has any sort of promise, and it’s with their debut full-length that Vrenth delivers such glorious chaos in a way that cannot be considered anything other than fantastically vicious! Right from the very beginning, it is more than obvious that “Baptism Death” will deliver death metal excellence the likes of which will never grow old so long as it is put in the right hands, and it is undoubtedly the hands of Vrenth that are beyond worthy of such immense power.
