Aberration – s/t

Just looking back at the last twelve months of our miserable lives is enough to make every single one of us sigh with a collective agreement of “Fuck”. However, one thing that’s been helping us power through more than ever is music, and there were certainly a few works in particular that embodied the year as a whole either accidentally or intentionally to provide us with a true catharsis that is more than welcome. With their debut EP and an extremely befitting name, Aberration has created just such a madness.

Certainly, we could leave the description of what Aberration has created here as some wild amalgamation (an aberration, if you will!) of black and death metal to just leave your imagination run with that, but I cannot express enough how much more this album is than that. Sure, the proper elements are that such that this eponymous work more than qualifies as it, but that would ignore the next level of hostility that’s at play all throughout these three overwhelming tracks that could easily give Primitive Man a run for their money in certain areas. Bone-crushing aggression, voracious riffs that are worked into the noise-drenched performance that permeates the entirety of what’s happening in each track, and horrific visions that you cannot help but watch in their entirety are just a few tastes of the glory that’s to be found in what Aberration has crafted on their first release as a unit, and I know for a fact that they’re capable of so much more once you realize what these musicians have accomplished in other bands that have garnered wondrous acclaim in their own rights. But, there’s no way to deny that Aberration is something else entirely. An uncompromising effort that seeks to eliminate all life in its path and leave everlasting visions of formless nightmares before the eyes of the few unfortunate survivors, there isn’t a single thing about what’s been done here that is to be denied when talking about power and deadly expertise.

This is a sound that only the most seasoned of listeners should venture into for should you be uninitiated and dare to explore these cavernous reaches then you’ll quickly succumb to the chaos that Aberration is effortlessly weaving with each track that they absolute revel in. Very few are able to pull it off on the scale like what we’ve got here, and I know for a fact that this is just the tip of the soul-stealing iceberg for what Aberration is able to deliver.
