On occasion, we get an album that truly does not deserve the fate of being categorized as opposed to the record being enjoyed for all that it is. When these acts come around and manage to provide us performances that really stick with us, it’s hard to even worry about what style it falls into for the work is just so gorgeous that such trivial works are not even worth worrying over. As I dove into the debut from Aegos, I didn’t dare think this would be one of those records. In every possible way, I’m ecstatic to be proven wrong.

Just to even consider the soundscapes of what is to be found within this expansive debut album would be to talk about one of the most interesting works of its kind that we have gotten to this point this year, and like all gems, it is criminally unknown. Such talent like this does not deserve to be skipped over regardless of the fact that this is Aegos’s debut work as that makes the reality of it all the more engaging, but there’s very little that can compare to simply letting “The Great Burst of Light” speak for itself. Very few stylistic stones are left unturned within this creation as Aegos really took a little bit from everywhere as we’re given a dazzling display of doom, death, sludge, progressive, and post-metal that would instantly fall apart in less capable hands, but it’s at every turn that Aegos not only defies the odds but leaves the listener downright bewildered to every extent. Just to bury yourself in all that “The Great Burst of Light” has to offer is to plunge yourself into greatness that we don’t get often whatsoever, and for it to sink into obscurity would be a damn shame for all that is good music. It’s an experience that we’re lucky to get enough a few times in a year, and I’ll be damned if I let such a marvel like this be unheralded with the name of Aegos to be all but unknown.

I can only hope to all that is good that the right people hear what Aegos was able to produce for their very first work and give them the exposure they very well deserve for everyone needs to hear this unique grandeur for all that it offers. To experience “The Great Burst of Light” is to become one with ether greatness the likes of which is a true rarity, and we can only hope it won’t be long before we hear more from this brand new name.
