The modern state of death metal has never been better if you ask me, and it’s truly thanks to the innumerable bands from all over the world that we are able to live in such a unique and macabre renaissance. While there are several bastions for what death metal can rise from the ashes, the States has long been a constant producer of some of the best. Hexorcist is a band as fresh as they come, but it’s with their first piece of material that isn’t a demo that they’ve done no less than impress.

There’s very little about everything that’s brought forth within their debut full-length that cannot be denied as anything other than a tour de force of so much of what death metal has become in its modern form from its varying forms of heaviness, speed, tone, and purpose. Hexorcist clearly knows the landscape that they find themselves in with their sound being a damn good representation of all that the scene can offer in virtually every form with each track that we’re presented with doing nothing but immense justice. The very essence of “Evil Reaping Death” is what many of us are always looking for out of a death metal record that isn’t just a straightforward work but one that actually delivers on the potential that’s constantly at hand. Without relying on old school tropes or even falling into a modern mold that many find themselves sinking into, it’s the whole of this record that immediately shows us what Hexorcist really shows us what all they can bring to the table and it’s a hell of a lot for sure. This is a record made for the modern death metal fan with everything great about the modern scene making its way into these ten tracks such that it’s hard to reject all that it bring forward with every possible facet working to the advantage of Hexorcist in a way that’s downright entrancing.

It’s only fitting that it comes with a title for “Evil Reaping Death” for that is extremely fitting for the kind of music that we’re dealing with it. “Evil Reaping Death” is as delectable as it is in line with what death metal has become in today’s landscape with everything working towards its ultimate goal of destruction and each song being a new weapon to bring it about.
