If there is any single style throughout all of metal that may be considered as oversaturated, atmospheric black metal certainly has to be towards the very top of that list. The sheer amount of bands that occupy that style is staggering with the number rising steadily month after month, and it’s with such numbers that it becomes inevitable that many bands fall below what many hold as the standard for the style when it comes to an album’s composition, but especially its quality. Eos is far from a name that many are were aware of before recently, but it’s with their first full-length album that they’ve rapidly climbed the ranks as a new name to know in an ocean of other names.

It’s far from uncommon to see a work of this style take the form of a swirling madness that’s hard to get a pin on for one reason or another, but it’s another thing altogether to make it sound good and even more so to make it intoxicating for you really need to have an understanding of the sound to bring to it the table and deliver it in such a form that the listener will be all but compelled to swim in that vortex of chaos. As if the band has been doing it for ages already, it’s right out of the gate with “Les Corps S’Entrechoquent” that Eos has more than surpassed that goal to deliver us a gripping performance that holds so much of what’s always been good about the world of atmospheric black metal within its vast, dark confines. And if there is any single thing to be discovered throughout this hour-long excursion into all-consuming darkness it’s that what Eos has crafted here is truly overflowing with apex quality the likes of which style rarely gets to see in such an expansive yet dense form. There is just so much to discover in these expansive pieces that it becomes all but irresistible for any real adventurer of atmospheric black metal to not dive right into no matter what angle you’re looking at, and it makes this work all the sweeter knowing that this is just the debut from Eos with possibilities being damn near endless from here on out with the potential for future wonder at an undeniable high.

It never takes much for any work to fall to pieces whether it be due to some form of inexperience or a handful of factors not done in proper fashion, but such an unfortunate reality never once came into effect in the creation of “Les Corps S’Entrechoquent” with every minute of the record acting as exquisite testaments to what exactly this style is still capable of. Immediately, Eos has set themselves apart from the rest without even doing much different in the overall view, but it’s through immaculate talent and real power that they’ve crafted what some will surely consider the best of its kind that this year has thrown our way.
