Godless – States of Chaos

As one of the first metal bands that I heard to come from the country of India, Godless has always been a name I respected to my core. Their particular brand of extremity is something that I found immensely alluring and impressive which really helped blow open the Indian scene as a whole for me with the rewards of that discovery still offering greatness to this day, but it’s through dozens of discoveries that Godless has still managed to stay near the top. With a particularly potent blend of death and thrash metal, they’ve always been an act to know out of India and it’s with their forthcoming effort that the reality of such a statement is all but reinforced.

There’s something interesting to me seeing metal like this coming out of a culture that I’m all but unfamiliar with for it can effortlessly produce a different creation than if it were to come from somewhere that I’m more familiar with like if it were American-made or from somewhere in Scandinavia. We’ve all spent a lot of time with bands from there, but it’s because of bands like Godless that the Indian perspective and approach are making waves in every affected corner of metal without exception and it’s everything that this band brings to the table with “States of Chaos” that it is sure to happen again in earnest. Stepping into the whirlwind that these nine tracks effortlessly whip up the moment the album starts playing, it’s hard for me to lay my eyes upon everything that’s executed in exquisite detail and not think that this is the most compelling work to date from this group as they leave no stone unturned to take every opportunity to deliver a performance that’s as unforgiving as it is engrossing from the very beginning. It’s a straightforward creation that does more than enough to keep the listener gripped at virtually every turn of “States of Chaos” as we’re treated to a flavorful barrage of blazing riffs, undeniable power, and a constant thirst for blood that permeates every facet of these nine tracks such that Godless should feel extremely proud of what they’ve crafted here for it truly is everything it needs to be, no more no less, and everything we could ever hope for out of the likes of Godless.

A creation like this is the sort of thing that the underground is always filled with, but there’s a special energy and power that’s to be had here that Godless has a tremendous hold over as they wield it with engrossing power to make for a wild performance right unto the end. There’s so much to find within the madness of “States of Chaos”, and it’s more than enough reason to still consider Godless as one of the undeniable kings of the Indian death metal scene.
