Kreationist – Dan L’Interminable

Something I have always and will always love about the vast world of metal is simply how far it can be stretched to make for something that not only has the capacity to stand on its own or feel like an effort unlike anything we may have heard before but how much it also remains those integral intricacies to remain a work of metal without once compromising itself in some form or another. Avant-garde, progressive, or whatever it is you may want to call it, when it’s done right it’s always a sight to behold no matter who you ask. Kreationist is effortlessly a name that classifies as just such an anomaly with the act’s debut EP being a treat that very few had the pleasure of experiencing, and it’s with the arrival of a full-length record that I can’t help but feel like we’re in the presence of something utterly monolithic.

This is one of those records that is more than worthy of being given the “word soup” treatment where people like me just throw all sorts of adjectives and pleasantries unto this creation without giving so much as a thought of where we’re going with our stream of thoughts or how much sense it makes for we’re so caught up in the experience before us. It would be so easy for me to do that for everything that “Dans L’Interminable”, but to even attempt to represent such a deeply passionate, talented, and soulful record like this in any such form would be to sully the wonder of a performance that we get here in these nine tracks that truly make for some of the more thought-provoking and even somewhat challenging metal that I’ve heard in recent months. No two tracks in the entirety of this work sound the same as Kreationist makes the very whole of the album something that demands multiple listens in order to well and properly absorb everything that it has to offer as it can feel like a dense effort before you surrender yourself to all that it offers, but it’s once you do that the secrets of “Dans L’Interminable” start to show themselves in all of their glory with each and every one of them have an air of mysticism that’s all but impenetrable despite being vastly alluring to all who seeks to immerse themselves in the album’s intoxicating woods.

Incredibly few albums are able to have such a specific feel to it that puts the atmosphere before the riff to never once restrict the song to a singular style which truly opens up all sorts of opportunities for a song to go down all sorts of different branches of music with everything that is “Dans L’Interminable” all but the epitome of what it means to bring such artistic glory to life. Whether or not Kreationist will get the recognition that it deserves upon the arrival of this effort I cannot say, but it honestly does not matter for this is an effort made for the sake of art rather than exposure and I cannot help but feel that anyone who can even begin to understand what goes on in a creation like this is knocking on the door of one of the more interesting sides of metal that we can possibly get with Kreationist primed to do so much more in the future.
