Godless Truth – s/t

The very origins of technical death metal can be up for dispute much the origins of any style, but it can be very interesting in this case given its recent rise in popularity, but it seems to be more often than not that most are content to simply leave the beginnings of the style at Necrophagist and no one else despite there surely being other names. Godless Truth may not have been the technical giant back when they first started in the 90s, it’s now after a return from a few year’s hiatus that they’re poised to really make a new claim for the spotlight of the technical death metal world with their new eponymous effort so much of what we could ever ask for.

The original vision and style of this band have changed wildly over the years since its initial inception due to several line-up changes that have even affected this newest effort given the newest recruits coming at the band’s resurrection four years ago, but it is finally now that we can see what the current incarnation of Godless Truth is capable of and it’s nothing short of the exact type of material that can easily make this band a new phenomenon in the quickly growing world of technical death metal. If it wasn’t the cover art that was enough to give you an idea as to the exact type of scathing death metal that is to be had in store with this eponymous work then it is the very first minute of these ten unrelenting tracks that should be far more than enough to properly convey what’s at play here. There’s no such thing as survivors come the end of this utterly visceral and technological horror that Godless Truth wields with no less than ultimate purpose as they seek only to bash in the very skulls of the unworthy who find themselves entering the aural realm of terror that this album presents to us in exquisite detail all the way to the very beginning, and it’s only after realizing the near-Lovecraftian amalgamations before your eyes that you can really see the wonder in what’s been summoned for this comeback creation.

The very world of technical death metal is more than capable of producing some truly great acts as it becomes more and more overcrowded each year with the competition all but fierce, but perhaps it’s time that instead of looking for new talent that we look back to the earliest days of the style to see what those largely unsung veterans are still capable of for who knows truly how many acts like Godless Truth are still lurking out there. Regardless of how long Godless Truth has been hiding in the shadows whether it be by choice or not, it is every possible inch of their self-titled effort that doesn’t just usher in a new era for the band as a whole but it shows us that they’re a true powerhouse of madness that cannot be underestimated nor should their terrible power be denied in any form.
