The darkest reaches of the floor of the metal underground is the exact sort of material that many of us venture into when we simply don’t want a pleasurable experience. A little bit like how the Cenobites of the Hellraiser franchise seek pleasure through extreme pain, it’s the unique catharsis of those dark reaches that we go into every so often in order to really purge ourselves in a way that even the more effective but simplistic forms of extreme can bring to the table. It’s in the abyss that we’ll never find any shortage of creations that are aberrations of life and sound itself with not nearly enough being able to come to the surface with the proper levels of power, terror, and bloodthirsty. Chaos Perversion, though, bursts into the light with no struggle and wildly succeeds in bastardizing all before it.

It can feel all too common to come across an album that attempts to emulate anything that’s brought to the table for something like this. The very goal to create a cohesive work of raw, unfettered darkness that seeks to consume all life, light, and hope throughout the vast expanse of this damned universe is the peak of what many strive for in some form or another as even the most deprived sections of the base of the metal underground seek to become even more depraved as the years drag on. And yet, despite all those that have come before them that are still trying to achieve such a cursed status, it’s with their debut effort that Chaos Perversion manages to find such blasphemy seemingly without even trying. It helps to have an absolute treasure trove of other attempts throughout the underground to learn from in order to make your own assault upon all life an exceptionally vicious and calculated attempt that would certainly be one of note, and I cannot help but feel that it’s every inch of the aptly titled effort that is “Petrified Against the Emanation” that we see it done in no less than exemplary fashion. Not a single moment is wasted whatsoever in this absolutely horrific endeavors of the very outer reaches of the all-consuming void as it’s even the bookending tracks that bring us into as well as deeper into the carnivorous chasm that do real justice to the overall feel and ferocity of all that’s brought forth in “Petrified Against the Emanation” as Chaos Perversion shows us what it means to have a leg up in the vast reaches of the darkened light of the underground and really maximize the opportunity in order to bring forth an effort that we a selected and depraved few are always looking for yet rarely get.

If nothing else, the very existence of this creation signals a very promising conquest from the likes of Chaos Perversion who has already shown us just what exactly they’re capable of on their very first release, yet I cannot help but feel they still have plenty of dark invocations up their sleeves ready to catch us when we’re not looking. To bask in the unholiness of all that’s accomplished within the confines of “Petrified Against the Emanation” is to find yourself in the very throes of undeniable, uncaring madness that wouldn’t stop for even the very ending of the earth with all the suffering and chaos bearing down on you with the only escape being to lose yourself in masochistic pleasure as the EP proceeds to slowly peel back the very secrets of the universe before our puny minds.
