Far too often do the more popular forms of death metal only come in terms of the singular. Sure, we see stylistic variations all over the place from the melodic to the progressive to the especially brutal, but it’s in regional terms that we don’t really get to see a combination that feels successful in its cohesiveness or its execution. From Finnish to Floridian to Australian, death metal has many different base forms for virtually every point on the globe, but it’s with a concoction between two that Soulcarrion sought to set themselves apart with their debut.
It’s such a simple concept that it almost feels as though anyone could come up with almost as though it was an after-thought, but it requires a good deal of know-how to tenacity to bring it all together which are two qualities that quickly come to light with all that Soulcarrion brought forth in order to make “Infernal Agony” a glorious reality the likes of which cannot be ignored. Condensed in these nine tracks can be found an utterly devastating and gloriously volatile creation born out of the union of both Floridian and Scandinavian death metal (it sounds more towards the Finnish side but who am I to certifiably say?) to make for an absurdly potent riff-fest that does not let up when even death comes along for it is the very power of this album that heralds it forth with naught standing in its way but walking meat waiting to be slaughtered. There isn’t a single shred of this visceral performance where we see Soulcarrion come lacking in any department whether it’s in terms of heaviness, ferocity, and raw talent that all come together magnificently for a debut that feels beyond complete but also engaging in a way that is truly representative of what can happen when capable new blood is behind the reins with everything put into “Infernal Agony” showing us just what exactly what Soulcarrion can really do. No moment of this boast of an album goes without issuing some sort of pulverization that simply can’t be ignored in any form as it’s for the whole of the nine testaments of violence and pure devastation that we’re treated to an exemplary lesson in viciousness, and it should go without saying that those behind Soulcarrion are more than apt professions in that particular field of study.
A worthwhile debut is always something that simply cannot be ignored for the raw potential that can be had for the band in question, and it’s with the likes of Soulcarrion that I can’t help but feel like we have another brilliant example of just such glory. An all but perfect name for such a creation, it’s the very whole of “Infernal Agony” that we’re able to witness the birth of what’s sure to be a new must-know act out of the underground that we simply must keep an immensely close eye on.
