While I tend to deal more in releases that have the backing of at least a little studio magic in the form of EPs or full-length albums, there’s something about the particular magic of a well-done demo that I simply cannot find myself turning away from. Death metal especially is a true fount of excellent demos that keep on giving more and more on a very regular basis with the staggering power to match, one must simply look in the right places to find even just one exceptional piece. In today’s case, it’s not one demo but two for a combination of releases from Moluchtas that originally came out last year that we’re able to get the monstrous two-parter that is this new effort.

This having been my first excursion with Moluchtas, I can’t help but feel wondrously fortunate to have come across their material in one neat package that has literally the material of two distinct packages that have more than plenty to offer for new listeners as we can see the birth and rise of this Belgian act in one swift motion of underground genius. Eight tracks from two demos originally released just six months apart, it’s the very power of “Telos Terminus” that is not to be underestimated for it’s every ounce of it that’s used to the very advantage of Moluchtas to set the band aside from what many might bring to the table in their first set of demos. In this scenario, however, I cannot help but feel like we’ve gotten a truly powerful creation that feels like something else entirely as it has all the twists and turns of a properly done full-length alongside the ominous auras and horrifying presence that permeates every second of this nearly hour-long compilation that has so much more to offer than what I could’ve possibly expected before venturing into the decrepit tomb where this was summoned. From patient dirges of pure darkness to unrelenting offensives of all-consuming chaos, it’s the very depths of the depravity found within “Telos Terminus” that one simply cannot overstate with every shift within the effort something to fawn over and fall in love with as it becomes clearer with each track that Moluchtas isn’t just another name in the endless dark of the underground, but a true burst of talent and madness that cannot and should not be denied to rise through the depths in order for its name to be spread like a terrifying plague as it deserves.

Such a piece like this is something that any of us would be lucky enough to come across in any form no matter when it would come across my radar, but now that I’ve heard the eight testaments of pure evil that’s to be had within “Telos Terminus” I cannot help but feel I’ve found true underground gold that should not be let go. I simply cannot help but become giddy when considering the very possibilities of what else Moluchtas is able to conjure after venturing throughout the many levels of this performance with a slowly fading torch, and the sights I saw and the experiences I witnessed therein are the exact sorts of wonders that I can’t deny as I become a disciple of all that Moluchtas is capable of. In every way, I’ve no doubt such a commitment will pay off in absolute spades.
