Frozen Planet…. 1969 – Not From 1969

it’s no secret that my fascination with instrumental rock has been a real cornerstone of my explorations and listening habits for years now, and there have been plenty of bands to come around that constantly manage to impress and stand out on a very consistent basis virtually without fail. Frozen Planet…. 1969 has been one such name that’s been constantly on my radar since I discovered them two years ago, and it really doesn’t seem like they have plans to slow down or stop anytime soon with their latest creation being the perfect example of such.

With a name like Frozen Planet…. 1969, it would be understandable if many thought that their particular style was rooted in that very year since it’s in the very name of the band, but that’s not always been the case with the influence of that time period coming and going like the tides from one reason to another. For their most recent creation, however, it’s all but apparent that Frozen Planet…. 1969 sought to show its listeners that they’re more than capable of delivering a modern-sounding record with “Not From 1969” very much living up to that goal in every way. For their tenth album, this band truly didn’t hold anything back. With over 40 minutes of runtime across just two tracks, it’s fantastic to see the amount of ground covered here as Frozen Planet…. 1969 crafts a wondrous vision of instrumental bliss that tosses us from many different corners of what the psychedelic spectrum can embody in this regard from Middle Eastern influences, a very digestible and smooth roller of riffs, and an epic 27-minute finale that is undoubtedly towards the peak of what I’ve come across when it comes to improvisational prowess. It’s all brought together with such talent and grandeur that it’s hard not to label Frozen Planet…. 1969 and all that “Not From 1969” accomplished here as the pinnacle of what Australia has been able to provide us in recent times from its reaches of psychedelic rock, and it’s even then that it’s clear to me that this effort truly stands out in the band’s own discography for all that it dares to achieve and all that it succeeds in wildly.

A true demonstration of knowledge, talent, and unfettered prowess for the style, the very whole of “Not From 1969” is something that is to be ignored. Frozen Planet…. 1969 has been a name to know for years now with all that they’ve delivered never once letting us down with the big event of their tenth album not disappointing in the slightest for even an instant.
