Dischordia – Triptych

Every now and then, there comes along a crazy act that simply cannot be ignored in any capacity, and to do so would be to turn and spit in the very eyes of creativity, quality, and pure excellence the likes of which that many of us are constantly clamoring for with the wide ranges of the metal underground always happy to provide. When Dischordia has long been one of those names that many of us were lucky to know with their potential all but clear to anyone who had heard them with every album better than the previous to provide us with new peeks into the true wonder that Dischordia is capable of, and it shouldn’t come as a surprise that their newest effort only furthers that trend. And yet, with all that’s brought forth in their third full-length offering, I can’t help but feel like the rug has been pulled out right from underneath me.

Right away, it’s not hard to tag technical death metal as one of the craziest styles in all of metal going on right now with it being outright effortless to see why that’s the case. Throngs upon throngs of bands have come out of the woodwork in recent years with the bar constantly being raised by the best when it comes to the levels of craziness that we’re subjected to year after year. So far, 2022 has only delivered to us maybe a handful of acts that qualify as such, but it’s with their forthcoming piece that Dischordia not only brings forth an effort that can deliver such excellence on a high level but they manage to bring it up to godly heights the likes of which simply cannot be denied in any form. Pick any track from “Triptych” and I defy anyone to find themselves being able to turn away from the multi-layered, bewilderingly dense creation that any of these nine tracks are able to deliver in a staggering capacity. Every single song takes the very idea of keeping the listener in suspense to exceedingly dramatic effect as Dischordia not only manages to deliver a wild performance from one minute to the next in wild fashion with each being viciously different from the last, but it’s for the very whole of the album that we get a no holds barred approach brought forth in a vehicle of utter craziness that simply cannot be denied.

From unorthodox instruments that vary from wrenches to a piano to a fucking filing cabinet (check the credits, that’s what it says!) to undeniable musicianship that permeates every given facet of the performance, there’s no way that this shouldn’t be considered Dischordia’s magnum opus nor one of the most insane releases that we’ve gotten this year so far by a wide margin! I would dare anyone to find something in the last few months that can stand toe to toe with the certifiable madness of color and sound that is brought forth for “Triptych”, and I would find it truly mindblowing should 2022 manage to dish out a performance that can wholly top this effort and all that it accomplishes.

“Triptych” releases on April 28th via Transcending Obscurity Records!
