Every now and then, the underground throws a real curveball our way that’s all but a true task to decipher. Yet, some bands simply defy explanation and are simply a vicious entity that’s not to be denied nor ignored for one small misstep could mean the difference between dark enlightenment and utter annihilation. When I first came across Sinniht last year with its debut EP, “Beyond the Liminal”, I wasn’t sure what to make out of. Deciding to come back to it later but forgetting to altogether, I find it all but imperative that I took the initiative to investigate the forthcoming new album from Sinniht. My views of the band has not changed, yet it’s in such a short amount of time that clear evolution has taken place to dramatic effect.
With a sound like what Sinniht brings to the table, it’d be a true task to put a pin on exactly what all goes into it. For the very entirety of all that it brings to the table, we see an utterly caustic blend of black, doom, and sludge all coming together in a boiling package that manages to have an utterly vicious serrated edge to it all that elevates the listen as a whole to something else altogether as Sinniht truly capitalizes on what it means to be all-out weird in its ferocity. For the whole of “Profane Geometry”, it wouldn’t be far off to say that sonically it feels very much as though Sinniht has taken the time to really hone it into something beyond vicious that feels just as weirdly intoxicating as it is purposefully inaccessible. The very embodiment of existential dread and ultimate nihilism, it was clear from the beginning that Sinniht was never going to be one to shy away from dangerous topics, and that doesn’t change here with the very subjects of the fight for nuclear dominance in the wake of innocent peoples’ suffering alongside the death-dancing scientists that seek to play with horrifying objects like the Demon Core that killed up to as many as six scientists who sought its secrets. It’s in every inch of “Profane Geometry” that we see Sinniht really come into its own as a next-level entity of bewildering underground madness that holds absolutely nothing back whether it be from its unique approach that adds another layer of uncomfortably to the mix or the ungodly, off-putting heaviness that permeates every part of the album with everything coming together almost too well to make it a truly unforgiving listen that has so much more than one might think these eight tracks have to offer.
If we’re not careful, there’s more than a good chance that the very name of Sinniht could slip from our consciousness to only return malignant as ever with the same acidic energy that we see now, yet it’s the very power of “Profane Geometry” that almost convinces me that we won’t be seeing this name disappear any time soon. Traditionally a visual artist with a favor in sculpting, it would be remiss for anyone to even insinuate that Sinniht has done anything but bring real caustic art to live with this ungodly creation with “Profane Geometry” simply being the latest nihilistic painting of the sonic tortures to haunt our ears, and I wouldn’t change that for anything.
“Profane Geometry” releases on March 18th!
