The very fringes of all that metal is capable of has long been the exact kind of desolate reaches that many of us have been striving to reach for a long time now. It’s a truly rare spectacle to see a band rise from such a harrowing realm with both the capacity and the drive to bring their haunting visions before others in order to show us not only some of the craziest creations that the world of metal has ever seen before but to pummel the competition at virtually every single turn. Every so often, a new name arises from the madness to deliver a performance that cannot be considered anything other than striking. That’s precisely what Thos Ælla did last year with its striking debut, it’s far sooner than we could’ve anticipated that the second assault is already primed to begin.

This is definitely one of those records where I find myself staring into the depths of my computer screen leaning my head into a hand wondering just how I want to go about describing an album like “Sempiternal Mobocracies”. At this point, I can’t break it down into anything simpler: this album is nuts in every category. Right from the very cover art, that much should be obvious, but what exactly does that mean in the context of Thos Ælla? Without exception, it means that every possible aspect of this performance brought about by a single man who is already part of a well-established name in the underground with the entity of Thos Ælla, in particular, being the exploration of madness and devastation that somehow cannot be captured any other way. Take that to the very extremes of what’s possible with these ten tracks being far more than a blend of black and death metal that can be found throughout many corners of the underground to become a transcendent aural assault that holds nothing back for even a second and what you’re left with is a performance that cannot be dismissed in any factor with the very power of “Sempiternal Mobocracies” supremely powerful, compelling, and unyielding right from the very beginning as it becomes clear right out of the gate that Thos Ælla has crafted a performance that cannot be done justice in a simple review.

This is the exact kind of experience that demands to be heard no matter what for no matter whatever people like me may say in any number of reviews that may come out before or after the release of the madness of “Sempiternal Mobocracies” that the simple truth will remain that words cannot truly describe all that takes place within this massive effort. The very name of Thos Ælla should elicit the very notion of what it means to take the extreme to the furthest reaches of cohesiveness with the very notion of conformity and a comfortable listen all but left in the dust before such a monolithic creation as this.
