Red Eye – The Cycle

Out of the many excellent realities that have come out of the underground explosion given the invention of the internet, that of high-quality experimentation with the many different styles out there is one that people like me simply cannot get enough of. Even when such exploration falls flat, such an effort can still be worthy of attention for what it dared to attempt which makes any successful offering truly something to behold. With their latest creation, it’s with their sophomore full-length album that Red Eye manages to do far more than just impress.

The very realms of doom are always challenging themselves to some sort of innovation and experimentation to not only show us just how far the scene can be stretched in all of its glory, but it’s when we smash it all together with the very concept of psychedelia then we’re in an entirely different plane of musical experience. There are a number of bands that have been trying for years to push the boundaries of such a combination as far as they can with more than a few managing to break through and create works that feel downright unbelievable. In no small way, Red Eye has quickly proven itself to be just such an act with the true majesty that they’ve conjured from the ether in order to bring “The Cycle” to life in all of its exquisite fashion. It could be so easy to leave the description of this album at a creation of heavy psych, but it’s even just a few minutes into the work that it should be more than obvious that’s far from a sufficient overview of what’s gone down here for Red Eye has truly gone above and beyond to bring to us an experience that absolutely does have all that hallmarks of a great slab of heavy psych, but it’s through daring experimentation and one hell of an ear for what works almost too well that “The Cycle” quickly elevates itself far above the competition.

With an album like this where there limits have truly been pushed and the very boundaries of the sound are being tested, words can only go so far before they start to become an injustice to the work in question and begin to desaturate the very excellence at hand. Normally, I would have no problem going into more detail with what Red Eye has achieved with “The Cycle”. But for the first time in a long time, I cannot continue for I implore you to simply investigate this bold foray into heavy psychedelia the likes of which we rarely, rarely are gifted with.
