With the recent rise and prowess that the realm of technical death metal has seen in recent years, it’s only natural for the style to be taken into crazier soundscapes as time went on whether the instrumentation became even more mind-blowing, the death metal even more brutal, or both. I think the latter is what’s coming to pass more often than not as the talent cap is seemingly always rising as the years move forward, and the results are almost always surprising even if the more extreme sides of death metal were never really something taken into consideration before. As if hearing the call for a band like that, it’s nine years after their last release that we see the return of DeathFuckingCunt with an appropriately vicious release to match their name that definitely raises the bar for themselves and their contemporaries.

Almost immediately, the supremely explicit nature of a release like this isn’t something that I go for out of a release for it can oftentimes feel like a band going down this route goes too far in that direction with the concept of “less is more” certainly having a part to play that is, ultimately, ignored. Too often is it all simply too much in one pot for any band to take and make into a proper meal that isn’t an absolute mess with only the most astute of chefs capable enough to pull off such a volatile concoction. If the nine years since their last album was the time necessary in order to craft the stunning work that DeathFuckingCunt has put on display here for their sophomore album,. then I’m all but tempted to say that it was worth it in every form. It’s from the very outset of the record that DeathFuckingCunt makes no attempt to ease the listener in with their utterly caustic, maddening barrage of technical and brutal death metal that come together almost too well as our ears are both treated to an absolutely magnificent display of instrumental prowess whilst being absolutely decimated by the unrelenting brutality that’s to be found across every slimy inch of what “Decadent Perversity” has on display non-stop. This record is what it means to take things to the extreme, refine it all to an almost unbelievable extent, and then blast it forth with an ungodly level of ferocity on such a scale that the term “scathing” is just the beginning for what’s at play here with the very whole of “Decadent Perversity” nine concise lessons of what it means to be extreme and utterly undeniable.

Far too often does the realm of brutal death metal finds itself overflowing with bands that are too worried about being loud and obscene rather than quality in many different regards, but it would appear that the tide might be turning so long as bands like DeathFuckingCunt manage to re-emerge to show us exactly what the style is capable of. It’s with a supreme technical approach that this band has done nothing but absolutely conquer with everything that’s brought forth in “Decadent Perversity”, and I can only hope that it’s not another nine-year gap before we hear from the Australian quartet again but if that’s what it takes to get another effort like this then I will have saintly patience.
