Every so often, we’re gifted with a new band that can only be considered an absolute sensation in virtually every aspect. When Silver Knife first came upon the scene two years ago with their debut album, “Unyielding/Unseeing”, the reaction from the scene was one of embracement and rejoice, fortunately, as the band’s name spread across the underground like wildfire as the previous experience from each member helped elevate the creation to something that simply had to be heard. Two years later, it’s now that we’re treated to two songs from that album cycle that never made it onto the final tracklist as the band intended for them to stand on their own, and stand they do ever so proudly!
The very essence of silver Knife is something that cannot be simply defined for all that the band manages to bring to the table with seemingly minimal effort after all the outside experience that each of these musicians has gained over the years with the only possibility for Silver Knife being that it’s a real tour de force of black metal. The two tracks that make up “Ring” undoubtedly have the same vibes as the preceding album, but it’s in every way, both intentional and not, that this EP has no problems whatsoever standing on its own as Silver Knife continues to weave their seductive craft in no less than tantalizing fashion virtually without fail. There is true power and personality at play here as Silver Knife delivers to us their second-ever offering of black metal that isn’t just scathing on the surface, but a performance that manages to seduce the listener with an explorative sound, dynamic atmospheres, and passion strewn throughout every single minute with the end result of “Ring” very much that of the first: a gripping the listener on such a satisfying level but still leaves them wanting more, for how could such magnificence simply be walked away from? A brief creation of this caliber is not something that can be simply moved to the side as we wait for something greater, for there is significance to this performance should one simply bask in the excellence that’s at play here with the final result showing us that Silver Knife still has so much more to offer to us.
The very existence of this EP could easily be dismissed as a mere interlude between studio albums as we sit here and wait patiently for Silver Knife to dish out their sophomore full-length album, but anyone who sets foot in this creation should know that there’s so much more to be had. Not a single minute of what “Ring” brings to the table should be denied in any form with the very reality of the piece something that deserves to be heard, understood, and worshipped for all that it is.
“Ring” releases on April 24th via Amor Fati Productions and Extraconscious Records!
