Whenever the word “blasphemous” comes into mind whenever metal is the primary subject, it has got to be black metal that dominates our every thought when it comes to maximizing the very potential of what that word means. Since even before the dawn of the style, the sound has never been anything to mess with as bands keep coming from all over, left and right, to deliver a performance that embodies what it means to bring apex blasphemy to the table, and it’s every now and then that I come upon a band that manages to up the ante in some form or another. Some do it with real subtlety while others don’t even attempt to hide it as they revel in their madness in every form. Without a doubt, Goatsmegma is of the latter breed.

As if the band’s very name isn’t enough of an idea for any new listener to make an inference from, this is not a band that was made for a casual listen or anything that has ever made black metal feel accessible in any form whether it be with riffs, atmosphere, theme, or execution. This is one of those bands that has only been around for a handful of years, four at this very moment to be precise, but it’s right from the beginning that they’ve made their mission extremely clear with no room for misconception or survivors as anyone who comes in their way is shown instantly that the only thing left in the band’s wake is burnt earth and charred corpses with that ringing very true for their second full-length effort, “Goat Separatist Movement”. It’s not just the next natural step that was the band’s only next possible move after their unforgiving debut three years ago, and it’s every given bit of the nine tracks here that should all but cement Goatsmegma as a force of unholiness, sodomy, and homicidal tendencies in the underground even as the very bar of what it means to be blasphemous seems to be raised with every passing month. Without a single moment of reprieve for the duration of the record, Goatsmegma creates an oppressive listen that takes the very core concepts of what black metal could possibly be incredibly literally as it’s evident even from the very names of some of these songs along with the cover art that these are not nice songs that even feign any sort of respect for religion, those who follows, or literally anyone who perpetuates false enlightenment in our world with the very goal of “Goat Separatist Movement” seeking to wash the entire globe of the plague of man and, by extension, the plague of the false god.

Never once does Goatsmegma allow for any shred of light to peek through its onslaughts of true blood-soaked darkness, and this is just the second wave of what this Estonian quartet is capable of! Imagine a truly calculated, refined, and even deadlier vision of this band’s ungodly pursuit of ultimate blasphemy after experiencing the true terror of “Goat Separatist Movement”. If that doesn’t make your very soul leave your useless flesh after the unyielding ferocity of this record then I don’t know what would.
