As a band that I have been proudly following since the band’s first demo almost ten years ago, Triumvir Foul has been a true pillar of underground ferociousness since that fateful discovery. Since then, the name has carved an absolute path of domination through the very realms of extreme metal with every release that they’ve dished out something that demanded to be heard with each automatically in the running for being considered among the most unforgiving releases of that year. Their rise has been undeniable, making the sudden announcement of their forthcoming third album being their last immensely devastating. But, let it be known that Triumvir Foul does not turn away untruthful to all that they have delivered to us up to now. With their last stroke of blasphemous madness, it’s yet again that this creation manages to craft a visceral experience that is nigh on compelling.
It’s at the point where it feels like Triumvir Foul could make an album about absolutely anything and it would come out a heaping mass of darkness that devours all life before it with it being just as repulsive as it is stunning as the band’s fervent cult never far behind. For their final assault, we see Triumvir Foul bringing back the three serpents that were pivotal in their 2015 eponymous first album in the tales of their deaths as they sought to destroy the very angelic creations in their righteousness. The very essence of “Onslaught to Seraphim” is precisely what we’ve always come to expect from this band at this point, but it’s somehow even now after all that they’ve accomplished and summoned forth from the darkest realms, this is undoubtedly the bands most intense abomination. There isn’t a single shred about this creation that leaves one wondering whether or not Triumvir Foul ever once dared to make their last impact upon the world one anything less than a true murder of the sense and the immense damnation of all around them, yet it’s every single one of these eight horrific tracks that we’re able to really see all that Triumvir Foul has become in their glorious reign to a degree that knowing it’s their last makes the world just a little bit more unbearable. Every band has to put out their final album at some point, and when you’re a band like this there is only one way to go about it: ultimate destruction. A scorched-earth policy is not immense enough for an effort of this caliber from a band like this ilk. “Onslaught to Seraphim” is destined to become the final dark sermon from what has undoubtedly been one of the most engaging acts of true horror in the last decade with it being now, more than ever, that the very name of Triumvir Foul must be hailed.
Much like seeing the demise of Shrine of the Serpent and Howls of Ebb, the loss of Triumvir Foul has truly left a hole in my heart. This is one of those bands that have been instrumental in the very crafting of my tastes in metal since my discovery of them and to have witnessed their rise was an honor amongst honors to have borne witness to. While I can always sit here and hope against hope that the world will see the madness of Triumvir Foul one day again, there is no denial from me that what they crafted with “Onslaught to Seraphim” cannot be considered anything less than the perfect stepping off point. This is an album that lives up to and elevates the very reputation of Triumvir Foul. A release that continues the trend of becoming what is sure to be one of the most intense experiences of the year, I wouldn’t dare change a single thing about this creation.
