A band that is always seeking to better itself while never once confining itself to one specific sound is one that is truly capable of many, many things. It’s something that many names think that they’re capable of but they lack some form of talent, tenacity, capability, or know-how in order to bring such a compelling transition to life even if they’re trying their best to, making it so that only the best of the best can achieve such a feat. In no small way, Inexorum has already made clear that they’re such an act that is able to bring such a wonder to the ears virtually without even trying, but it certifiably has to be with their newest offering that we see them at what has to be their best yet.

It could be so damned easy for any band in question to implement a simple element of melody into their sound in order to draw people in, but it’s another thing altogether to really bring it to the table in a potent form that doesn’t weigh down the core sound that the band initially set out with. As a band that has had its fingers deep within the worlds of black and death metal, it certifiably has to be with all that they brought forth for “Equinox Vigil” that we see Inexorum take on their most melodic, most potent, and most captivating creation to date. It’s so melodic in all the right areas so much that I’m almost tempted to compare it to power metal in more ways than just one, but that makes the work in question feel much lighter than in reality as there’s simply no way to deny that what was brought forth for these eight tracks cannot be considered anything less than just what the doctor ordered for extreme metal of this kind. Tons of color and personality to be had in every single moment, “Equinox Vigil” is a far cry from a wild change in pace from what bands like Countless Skies would bring to the table, but it’s in every way that it should be clear to the listener that Inexorum is not content to keep things simple or supremely straightforward, especially given how their very sound has changed and evolved since their earliest days. A damn good time by all accounts and the exact sort of record that checks off all the right boxes when it comes to intensity and power, this is a creation that breaks away from the mold of much extreme metal just enough to still ring true to the roots of the style but it’s in every way that Inexorum manages to make the performance wholly their’s without an ounce of compromisation.

Melody doesn’t automatically make for an instantly better performance as it truly does depend on the talent at hand in order to bring it to life in a meaningful fashion, and it should be without exception that we come to accept that is what has happened with Inexorum for their third album. There is true magic to be had within all that can be found within “Equinox Vigil”, and it’s in every way that Inexorum must be hailed for the fantastic glory that they achieved for this magnificent creation.
