Perpetually, the very underground of death metal is a hotbed of talent that is thriving to climb the ranks and outdo its contemporaries with the bar always at a vicious height no matter when it is we’re talking about or who. Since before the very dawn of the sound, only the strongest and most compelling have been able to survive with the very depths of the underground proving to be a crucible that only further hardens and tempers the talent of those festering therein. Molder has only been around for five years, but it’s in that very short amount of time that the trio has already made an immense name for themselves as a powerhouse of what the modern underground is able to churn out, and it’s with their newest release that they’ve further their conquest for ultimate glory bathed in blood.

Just to look at the back catalog of what Molder has conjured up to this point from its multiple demos, splits, and the proper full-length debut from two years ago should make it more than obvious to even the newest fan of death metal that Molder is far from a name that is to be taken lightly with the name that they’ve made for themselves already earning widespread acclaim that is most certainly warranted. Time has been truly kind to this act out of Illinois, and it has got to be with what they brought to the table with “Engrossed In Decay” that we’re met with a true spectacle of horror, proficiency in high-tier death metal, and an infectious nature that instantly takes control of the mind and its facilities such that it’s not even before the end of the first track that you’re a slave to the homicidal tendencies of Molder. It’s in every given way imaginable without even a shred of a chance for an argument to be made otherwise that what all has been brought forth in order to bring the disgusting heap of rotting flesh and maggots that is “Engrossed In Decay” to life is what albums of the year are made out of. This is a defining record for both Molder and what the very entirety of the death metal underworld is capable of without exception! It’s got the old-school vibes threaded through every given note. It’s infectious on an unbelievable level. It’s downright murder right from the very first nanosecond. It’s addicting. It’s maddening. It’s fucking death metal! The very glory of Molder cannot be understated when talking about this album – this is one of the faces of new death metal that are to be hailed unto our dying breaths!

If you search long enough you’re more than likely to come across noteworthy creations in the world of death metal that are more than interesting to note right from the beginning, but only in incredibly few instances do we get an act like Molder that manages to blow expectations all over the place with nary a survivor left in sight. Should the ten tracks of “Engrossed In Decay” not be hailed as one of the most staggering and overwhelming creations of death metal the year has thrown our way thus far then that is a true crime upon all that the sound has become, and I can’t wait to see Molder stomp in victory upon the very corpses of those who would deny the band what is rightfully theirs.
