Nebula – Transmission from Mothership Earth

Every subsection of all that psychedelic rock has to offer feels touched by legends in such a way that it becomes hard to imagine the very sound without their influence or ingenuity propelling the style forward or creating it all together. When Nebula set out just before the start of the century, I highly doubt they set out to really make a name for themselves with a sound that can only be considered ethereal and drenched in fuzz in the most grandiose of proportions. Decades later, the name has become one of the more eclectic and hypnotic creations that the psychedelic world still has to offer with few able to match their level of effectiveness despite their simplicity. For their newest otherworldly work, that trend is only furthered gloriously.

It can be too often that people put too much thought when approaching the world of psychedelics since it’s more often paired with the idea of galactic sights and visions born out of the highest quality of hallucinogens, but there is always a place and a time for simple riffage paired alongside the proper amount of fuzz to really create an impenetrable atmosphere and an infectious nature that really makes the work in question something that you just can’t help but fall into. Without exception, Nebula has always been masters of such a craft. Long have they been a standard of what it means to achieve maximum effect psychedelia whilst always keeping the listener grounded to earth with a sound that feels delightfully drowned out in mind-altering substances and vision enhancers with the very nature of “Transmission from Mothership Earth” something that feels as though it both embodies much of what many classic rock acts have tried to achieve before while also managing to deliver an experience that feels as fresh as it does engrossing. We could sit here all day and try to pick apart what Nebula brought forth for their sixth full-length effort, but this is just one of those creations that are best summarized in as few as possible with the raw experience being on that speaks for itself in ways that people like me could only fail in hoping to explain.

The very essence of “Transmission from Mothership Earth” is what many strive to achieve in their runs throughout the many different realms of psychedelic rock, but it really does take particular talent and a laidback approach in order to bring something of this caliber to life in such a way that can’t be seen as anything other than a success. And what else should we really expect when dealing with the likes of Nebula?
