If we were to take into consideration the modern state of psychedelic rock and all that it has accomplished in just the last few years, it would be a true task to say anything other than the simple fact that this is one of the best times to be a fan of the style. With its many branching paths and infinite expanse that’s always ripe for exploration should the right collective come forth to seize the opportunity. When Psychlona came upon the scene just four years ago, they did precisely that. Their meteoric rise is something that many can only ever dream of, and it’s now with their third opus of transcendent color that this act is poised to take on the very throne of the genre itself.
The credentials of this band are of the sort that can be doubted or seen as anything less than stupendous given the amount that the band has accomplished in such a short amount of time, and it’s even as the days go by that Psychlona becomes ever more integrated into the modern scene that we find ourselves in. Whether it’s releasing albums that top their respective charts on Bandcamp or headlining world-famous festivals or becoming the first band to release an album from that festival’s fresh in-house record label, “Palo Verde” is simply the latest in a long and growing line of Psychlona’s prowess and domination over the world of psychedelic rock. Eight tracks of the very sort of excellence that we should come to expect from this massive presence by now, this third offering is the sort of laidback cosmic exploration that may or may not include the use of certain substances to make the colors all the more vivid and the trip all the trippier with it all coming together for an experience the likes of which that’s becoming all but natural for Psychlona. An absolute whirlwind of riffs and atmosphere the likes of which you can’t find anywhere except the most pristine reaches of the entire genre, what else could we have come to expect from all that was brought forth in order to bring “Palo Verde” to life?
Psychlona is a name that has demanded respect since day one with every day after that seeing them get better and better with today certainly being their finest yet. It’s hard to fathom them getting any better than the undeniable masters that they are now, but who’s to say what the days ahead have in store for talent like this? It’s with “Palo Verde” that we’re able to witness this band strike psychedelic gold for the third time in a row, and the deluge of true wonder doesn’t seem to be ending any time soon.
“Palo Verde” releases on August 19th via Psycho Waxx!
