Vrenth – Succumb to Chaos

To look at the death metal scene as a whole, it would be easy for anyone to either defend or attack it since there are plenty of attractions and poor decisions spread throughout its depths that all add to the glorious chaos of all that it truly is. Excavating the good material out of the darkest depths of what the scene has to offer can make for a fascinating experience like few others in the world of music. When I first came upon Vrenth not even two years ago, it was then that I knew that I came upon something wonderful. In hardly no time at all, Vrenth has already poised itself to be an act of real power that can effortlessly become a cult act.

When dealing with death metal of this caliber, it’s hard to expect much in the way of form or structure meant for anything less than ultimate destruction of all that comes before it, and it’s not terribly often that a band is able to come around and really blow expectations away with such an unbridlded work. It can be all but effortless for such a creation to sound like a loud mess, but it’s with their second full-length album that Vrenth manages to not only deliver on such a high bar in that regard, but they’ve truly managed to up the ante when looked at side-by-side with their 2020 effort. Already an unrestricted force of raw death and aerial blood, Vrenth didn’t need to prove anything to as to how potent they are with their craft with all that’s been brought forth for “Succumb to Chaos” ensuring that is all but a perfect title. There is nothing held back for this performance as it shows to any potential and foolish doubters that Vrenth is truly the real deal and something that is not to be underestimated whatsoever. Packed full of riffs, murderous intent, a bloodlust that wouldn’t stop for the very ending of the world, and a true sense of destruction that is nigh on impeccable, this is the sort of unforgiving death metal that one simply cannot dismiss as something not worthy of lapping right up.

The varying degrees of death metal that we find ourselves in the midst of nowadays can be equally as rewarding as well as disappointing, but it’s now for the second time within two years that Vrenth has left me floored with their persistence and mastery over the sound with there surely being a debate to this being their finest yet. “Succumb to Chaos” is much of what the veteran fan of death metal is looking for: a pulsating mass that rises off the very floor of the underground to end all life and devour all sorts of light in its path.
