Ever since their return, the very mention of Entrails is enough to get the mind buzzing about the very state of modern Swedish death metal and all the fame, accolades, and wonders that it has made since its resurgence in the past decade. For the longest time, this band has been integral to what many would consider the very peak of what Swedeath is capable of in its entirety with all of its riffs, energy, and power undeniable. Entrails has never been one to deny us with such excellence right from the frontlines of the sound itself with their latest creation simply another wave of that very offensive that proves to us, even more, the tenacity and unforgiving nature of all that is Entrails.
When you’re dealing with a band like this, change isn’t really something that one should expect in the terms of style or even any sort of approach to how the sound is delivered with Entrails being a glorious example of what it means to be true masters of their craft. Despite a changing line-up over the years that results in something ever so slightly different for the name, the very spirit of Entrails has endured through it all with “An Eternal Time of Decay” viciously compelling right unto the very end with it being an embodiment of Swedish death metal on a scale the likes of which many could only ever hope to achieve in their time. Eleven tracks of uncompromising riffage and a voracious style that could suck the very light from the sun itself, it’s hard not to stare into all that is “An Eternal Time of Decay” and not feel as though Entrails is at the undeniable top of their game for their seventh full-length album to the point that I find myself debating if this is going to become one of my favorite album from the veterans of the Swedish scene. The very nuances of the performance lean into the reputation that this band has made for itself over the decades with each and every given track speaking for itself without so much as a drop of shame, compromisation, or desire to change what Entrails has always been since the very beginning: an amorphous entity of old school Swedish death metal that is all but iconic, integral, and pivotal to what many see as what it means to be at the top of the food chain for the sound. Without a second’s doubt, it’s the mere existence of “An Eternal Time of Decay” lives up to such a high bar.
In any lesser hands, such consistency and straightforward approach to a sound that has long been well-executed from any such act for this long would start to lose its luster, but it is in every form that Entrails has never been one to let the opportunity for ultimate glory, blood, and gore pass them by as the years go on. There are loads to explore within the catacombs of “An Eternal Time of Decay” with the future of Entrails looking as bold and massive as its body count with the name being as deadly as ever without any lack of quality or shred of compromisation in sight.
