Dabbling with the very soul is what the great vast majority of music revolves itself around as art in all of its various forms is what everybody can connect with even as we’re able to find our own interpretations no matter what form it comes in. During my time, I’ve always found that the regions of post-rock and post-metal can easily offer some of the most emotionally driven creations that both respective realms can deliver when it’s in the right hands, and there is nothing that can be likened to losing yourself in those dense atmospheres to detach yourself from the physical plane to reach a euphoria of a special kind, however brief it may be for. Holy Fawn has been a name floating around the more dynamic reaches of post-rock for years now, and it’s with their newest offering that their reputation should only be cemented in greatness.
To bring your emotions to the forefront of your musical work is far from a novel idea anymore, as we’ve already discussed, but there’s always something to be said when it is involved for that means we’re in for a genuine experience the likes of which few would be able to put a proper cap on, and Holy Fawn has never been a stranger to bringing such a thing forward in extraordinary fashion for the seven years that they’ve been releasing material. But, when you get to the point that your material becomes truly cathartic is when your music truly transforms. It becomes a magnificent, compelling body of work that moves the very soul and touches on the very darkness that we all have lurking within, and it’s with creations like “Dimensional Bleed” that we’re able to utterly lose ourselves within for all that it manages to bring to the table in every given instance without so much as a shred of compromisation. The ten tracks brought forth here are what this particular vein of post-rock was all but made for as you can truly lose yourself in this record as you untether yourself from the troubles of the mortal coil, shed of all of your troubles indiscriminately, and become one with the very ethereal that flows between realities. There is no light or darkness, no hope or pain, no life or death; simply, drifting.
Along with a vicious injection of passion that can just as easily also come in the form of soul-wrenching howls, Holy Fawn has truly made for a performance here that the world of post-rock is not going to let slip into oblivion much like its 2018 predecessor, “Death Spells”. And much like that previous effort, Holy Fawn should be able to look at all they brought to the table for this effort and feel nothing short of immense pride and satisfaction for what they’ve crafted with true passion here for it stands leagues above much of the competition and makes for a sight that can’t be seen as anything short of transcendent.
