Chaos Over Cosmos – A Dream If Ever There Was One

At some point, it really does feel like I find myself in somewhat of a loop whenever I come across new albums from bands that I cover on a regular basis be it from the likes of which are constantly releasing material with at least one every year. It feels like any time new material comes from such an act, I find myself claiming it to be better than what’s come before it even if the previous records were the same when they were the newest efforts, but I still stand by my decisions at the time even if it does feel like a hyperbole time after time. However, it’s in the case of Chaos Over Cosmos that I never once find myself doubting when I claim such for they truly do get exponentially better with each creation. Without exception, their brand new album proves to be no different whatsoever.

A progressive act that has never shied away from death metal tendencies alongside technical passages that offer nothing short of blistering songs that hold nothing back with a growing sense of contrast that is constantly keeping us on our toes, this band has never been one to underestimate since its debut. Time has been extremely kind to the act with every album delivering that excellence on a higher level than before with a fresh sense of mastery to really bring a special level of potency to whatever new effort Chaos Over Cosmos may bring to the table. Hands down, “A Dream If Ever There Was One” continues that trend in magnificent fashion. Over an hour long with six completely new tracks backed up with four reimaginings of previous creations, the very whole of “A Dream If Ever There Was One” not only stands as the most striking and compelling creation that this band has made thus far, but one of the most intriguing efforts of anything progressive that I’ve heard in far too long. Mature right from its earliest moments with more than enough flashiness and potency to win over the hearts of those that simply let that craziness wash over them, what Chaos Over Cosmos has brought forth for this over hour-long experience cannot be deemed anything short of explosive even in its smallest moments. This is a bombastic creation that many progressive acts seek to bewilder listeners with, yet it’s “A Dream If Ever There Was One” that not only manages to rise above those that aren’t able to bring such a concept to life properly, but a new standard for the rising talent that is Chaos Over Cosmos that never once disappoints.

The passage of time is always something that comes with its own uncertainties given that it just as easily take as it could give, but there are some bands that simply seem to be on time’s good side as they’ve only gotten better as we’ve moved forward with Chaos Over Cosmos undoubtedly being one of the most underrated acts that can boast such. To pick any given minute of what’s to be had here is to find yourself in the very midst of wonder and color the likes of which much of the progressive world seeks to accomplish, but to take in the utter entirety of “A Dream If Ever There Was One” is to lose yourself in undeniable prowess and magnificence that shows no signs of wavering in the slightest.

“A Dream If Ever There Was One” releases on November 9th!
